Me ei teadvusta omas rütmis tiksudes – kool-hobud-kirjatöö-lumelabidas-kool-elektrita olme-kool, kui paraja füüsilise pinge oma muinasmaal saavutame. Jah, ka riffidel tõusen kell 5, hommikuti kirjutan – aga füüsilise tavakomponendi kojujäämise tõttu koguneks iga päevaga pehmet punu ja mõnusaid põski juurde. Siin riffidel pikemaks purjed rehvides läheksin ilmselt koos tütrega jõuksi ja taipoksi – saalid-treenerid, nagu igal jalgsi ja tillu-fiatiga siuglemisel avatud ustest näinud oleme, ootavad 😀

RESURRECTING THE UNIVERSAL CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS IS NOW…

Growing up in a conservative Christian family, I was taught to believe that being a “true” believer – and therefore getting “in” to heaven – meant worshipping Jesus Christ as my one and only personal savior. After being baptized as a baby and “saved” as a young adult, I believed that honoring Jesus required putting Christianity on a high pedestal that forbade acknowledgement of other saints, religions or paths to God. Though I always had a natural curiosity about other cultures and their spiritual practices, I secretly feared that being open to other faiths meant being disloyal to Jesus. To me, that was dangerous ground both morally and spiritually.
As a result, I avoided anything that looked or felt too “different” from rituals I practiced growing up in the A.M.E. (African Methodist Episcopal) church. Each week, my family donned their Sunday best to join the parade of custom zoot suits, colorful wide-brimmed hats, fancy dresses and pious white gloves. Once seated snugly into our favorite pew, I played my part well. I sang on pitch from red hymn books. I stood up and sat down to recite verses from the Bible, the only sacred text I ever read. Once a month, I quietly endured three-hour communion services with bread, crackers and grape juice without looking bored, and watched attentively during sermons by charismatic pastors who were assigned to preach, shout and stomp the congregation into spiritual euphoria.
As long as I looked the part, sang along, and recited on cue, no one ever asked me about the state of my consciousness. Though every service was uplifting, I often left church feeling spiritually empty.
The Universal Christ Consciousness
Years later, I became a curious spiritual seeker. I studied Kabbalah, Scientology, Hinduism and Buddhism, looking for the one “true” religion. I went to every temple, cathedral, mosque and church I could find. Eventually, I visited L.A.’s Agape Spiritual Center, a congregation based on the Science of Mind tradition founded by Ernest Holmes. It was an eye-opener. There, I first encountered the concept of the “universal Christ consciousness.” The services included affirmations and songs, but unlike my home church growing up, Reverend Michael Beckwith recited scriptures from every major religion, including the Torah, Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita. He often referenced Jesus’ words in the bible: “The kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21). In his purview, Christ’s most important legacy was not a particular religion or the church itself, but his Spirit – his God consciousness – which reigns in all hearts.
This philosophy hit home when I studied the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, the Indian saint who founded Self-Realization Fellowship in 1920 to bring yoga to the West and share the underlying truth behind all true religions. Yogananda taught extensively about the universal Christ consciousness. He taught that in an inner kingdom of divine consciousness, the awakened intuitive perception of the soul pierces the veils of matter and life energy, and uncovers the God-essence in all things. In his critically acclaimed books, The Second Coming of Christ and The Yoga of Jesus, Yogananda wrote:
“Many are the churches and temples founded in his name, often prosperous and powerful, but where is the communion that he stressed—actual contact with God? Jesus wants temples to be established in human souls, first and foremost; then established outwardly in physical places of worship. Instead, there are countless huge edifices with vast congregations being indoctrinated in churchianity, but few souls who are really in touch with Christ through deep prayer and meditation.”
When asked about Christ’s resurrection and the second coming, Yogananda never considered Jesus’ literal return to Earth. He said:
“A thousand Christs sent to earth would not redeem its people unless they themselves become Christlike by purifying and expanding their individual consciousness to receive therein the second coming of the Christ Consciousness, as was manifested in Jesus. Contact with this Consciousness, experienced in the ever new joy of meditation, will be the real second coming of Christ—and it will take place right in the devotee’s own consciousness.”
THIS CHRISTMAS, I CHOOSE TO RESURRECT THE UNIVERSAL CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS WITHIN MY OWN HEART. FOR ME, THIS CONTACT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW I EXPRESS MY RELIGION ON THE OUTSIDE – WHAT I WEAR, WHETHER I GO TO CHURCH OR NOT AND THE SONGS I SING ARE OF LITTLE IMPORTANCE. THOUGH IT MAY WORK FOR OTHERS, I DON’T NEED A CROSS, COMMUNION, OR SPECIAL HYMN TO FIND GOD.
This means walking humbly through the world with kindness and compassion; loving others especially when they don’t believe what I do, whether they’re Islamic, Jewish, atheist, white, gay or republican. And perhaps of greatest importance is cultivating a deeper love for the Divine – whether I call it Christ, Krishna, Buddah, Allah, Elohim, Higher Power, Divine Mother, or God….

TÄNULIKKUSEST MEESTE VASTU

Ma kuulen ikka veel oma emalt, et tema suurim viga elus oli minu isaga abiellumine. Liit, mis tõi mind maailma… Muidugi, peale minu oli (või õigemini ilmnes) seal palju erinevaid asju, sest miski ei pöörita põhjast nii palju muda üles kui inimsuhteid. See oli minu biograafia alguspunkt.
Üks tark mees ütles kord, et kui kauaoodatud armastuse vesi voolab hinge kuivanud jõesängi, tulevad esimesena pinnale muda ja kaikad ning alles seejärel kõik ülejäänu. Kolmekümne kuue aasta jooksul on jõgi üles toonud tonnide viisi muda, kaikaid ja isegi palke, sest pahameelega emade tütred lähevad maailma süütunde, kaebuste ja ootuste pagasiga.

Ma ei saa öelda, et ma oleksin nüüdseks kõigest sellest lõplikult lahti lasknud, kuid ma näen nüüd, et küps naine, kes suudab enda eest hoolitseda, on meestele paljude asjade eest tänulik. Isegi mitte paljude, vaid praktiliselt kõige eest.
Tänulik, sest ta hakkab neid selgemini nägema, olles võtnud omaks omaenese, naiseliku mina. Ta ei otsi enam väljastpoolt ema ja isa, vaid ta teab, kuidas end hästi, maitsekalt ja lõbusalt tunda. Jah, muidugi võib ta alati valida ka üksilduse, kus on veel palju sisemist tööd teha. Ja siis on elus ruumi õhule, mängule ja sügavale rõõmsale tänulikkusele. Selle eest, et nad on olemas, ja selle eest, et nad on erinevad. Et nad saavad oma selgete ilmingute kaudu näidata meile, kus naistel on veel vaja pehmeneda, ilma oma olemust kaotamata.

Kõvadusele… Naise keha sees olevale armastavale füüsilisele kõvadusele, mille tunnetusega ei ole miski võrreldav. Ja välisele kindlusele, mille ümber saab tantsida, nagu tantsib laine kaugele merre ulatuva sadamakai betoonjalgade ümber. Ja mõnikord ka raevutseda…
Selle eest, et oled olemas, kui asjad lähevad raskeks, ja et lahkud, kui need on väljakannatamatud. Ei tohi murduda. Sest kellel on sellest kasu, kui inimene on katki?

Vastupanemise ja naise ajju sissehäkkimise eest, et proovida kontrolli välja lülitada. Oh, kui meisterlikult nad seda teevad!

Võimaluse eest, et ma ei suuda midagi mõista.
Julge katse eest, et kui isegi mitte mõista, siis vähemalt aktsepteerida ja taluda naist enda kõrval.

Naine hakkab meest armastama nagu teist riiki. Või isegi nagu teist planeeti, kus kõik näib olevat okei, aga ei ole ka.

Selgub, et igasuguse tegevuse alus on armastus. Ja igatsust olla ühenduses ei saa ära võtta, sest ainult siis, kui inimeste vahel on kontakt, juhtub midagi tõelist.

Las seda segavad hirmud ja las suruvad teelt välja mineviku jäised tuuled, kuid on ikkagi miski, mis sunnib minema edasi ja vastu. Tänutundes.
